Thank You ~ New Teas ~ Tea around Town

Tower Grove Farmers Market 2010

Tower Grove Farmers Market 2010

Thank you to each and every one of you who keep supporting Traveling Tea.  I enjoy seeing you, getting to know you, and helping you to share good tea with others.   That sounds like a sound-bite, but my words cannot adequately convey the joy and upliftment I feel when I know my customers by name.  It energizes me to feel that I am contributing something worthwhile in your lives.

It was a great summer and I look forward to seeing you at winter markets at St. John’s Church and at Schlafly’s in Maplewood.  Thank you, again.

New Teas:

It seems like I get new teas in every time I turn around, and when you ask “What’s new?” I can never quite remember all of them!   That is part of why I am offering a “Tea Circle” 2x month at the shop – so you can hear about and try new things as they come in; help make decisions about new teas to carry; and take an hour to just get to know tea and other tea lovers.  Join me every month, for the foreseeable future, at 7 pm on the 2nd Wed or 4th Tuesday of every month.

While I’m thinking about it,  two new teas that come to mind are:

Vanilla Oolong – a tasty blend of Chinese Pai Mu Tan white tea with oolong and natural vanilla essence. Blood_Orange_Organic_Tea

Blood Orange – another herbal rooibos blend – this time with orange peel, hibiscus, rose hips and apple bits.  I hear it’s tasty with alcohol too….for those holiday punch blends….

ALSO – I finally got the Tisano cacao in.  YAY!!  Right now you can purchase a 4 oz tin for $14.00, and I will soon have it packaged in 1 & 2 oz, like the rest of our teas.  ALSO, I will be adding the cacao pieces to Chocolate Creme Tea, Chocolate Creme Rooibos, and Creamy Chocolate Mint – filling each of them with More chocolatey goodness!

Maude’s Market & Kakao Chocolate are now carrying a selection of our teas for your convenience.  Local Harvest Grocery continues to carry a selection of 1 & 2 oz. pkgs.

For a cup or pot of tea around town – Local Harvest Cafe on Morganford & Stone Spiral Cafe on Sutton in Maplewood have each added several new flavors to their tea menus.

Newsletter & Corrections

I just sent out a newsletter – or rather, a schedule of upcoming events and places (also can be found here on the Calendar/Events Tab.

There were a couple of errors and a follow-up notice was sent out to correct the time for the tea & chocolate tasting, as well as info about the event at Stone Spiral on 11/18.   Info on this site has been corrected as well.

If you have not been receiving my newsletters please let me know.  I think some schools and businesses are blocking them.  We may have to find a new way to keep you up to date.

October Events

A newsletter just went out, and shortly after hitting the SEND button, I realized I forgot this event:

Friday 10/9/2010 6:00-9:00pm - Sarah Carmody’s Studio at 2707 Sutton Blvd. will be serving our tea during the Maplewood Art Walk, in conjunction with her exhibit:  Distant Dreams, a collection of images from the travels of New Orleans – based photographer Shawn Escoffery. The exhibit comprises images taken over the past 3 years in countries such as Burma, India, Japan and South Africa.   We will be serving country appropriate teas as a companion to the art.  Call Sarah at 314-401-8089 for more info about the exhibit.

Sorry for the omission, Sarah

THANK YOU!

to everyone who made a special effort to buy tea and/or made donations to the MS Express Scripts ride that my daughter participated in.

She made her “century”, riding 100 miles the first day (UGH!!), and another 75 miles the 2nd.  She’s recovered from that by now, thankfully.

We raised an additional $91.30 for her campaign, not counting donations you made directly via her site, or via checks.  Thank you Thank you.

Shop News

Apologies for my delay in keeping you all up to date. As some of you have already noticed, the shop in Maplewood is no longer open.

This was a decision arrived at somewhat spontaneously. I enjoyed the shop environment for the more leisurely pace of interacting and sometimes chatting with some of you for quite some time over a cup of tea.

Yet, economic realities had to be faced; and then, as I contemplated working at the Summer Farmers’ Markets again, I realized how much joy and vitality I experience interacting with you in that medium.

I remembered how inspired the name “Traveling Tea” and the teapot logo with its hobo bag, just “came to me”, almost unbidden…..and even the slogan “Sharing Good Times – Sharing Good Tea”. (“Traveling Tea”, not “Sitting in a Shop” Tea)

Though it was originally a teashop in Kansas City that generated the idea of a tea business in St. Louis for me, what I was “given” to create is something different.

Bringing tea to you, where you are in your lives and activities; to get quality tea on the menus at venues and events in the area where tea-lovers currently have limited choice. This is my mission. So tea lovers throughout the St. Louis area can truly enjoy healthy, tasty, properly brewed tea while they are sharing good times with friends and family.

Help me spread the word. Tell me where you want to see Traveling Tea. Tell the owners and managers of those places you want to be able to buy/drink Traveling Tea product there.

Together, we can take St. Louis beverage enjoyment to the next level!

Happy Summer 2010
I look forward to seeing you at the Markets

Custom Tea Flavors

This is becoming a most satisfying part of my job as the “tea lady”.    When a customer asks about something they are looking for, in particular, I set about seeing if I have ready access to it through my distributors.  If they don’t have it I start thinking about what I can create that will meet your taste.   You get small samples to try before I finalize the blend, though sometimes I will go ahead and order or blend it up if I’ve fallen in love with it myself.

So far I’ve created the “WellBody Ginger Green” for a local acupuncturist who wanted a decaf ginger and green tea blend.  Adding pineapple and mulberries to the mix takes the bite out of the ginger with a natural hint of sweetness.  I was recently asked to make a caffeinated version which has become the “Travelers Ginger Green”.

Another favorite is the Organic Honey “Show-Me” Rose, made with rose petals from a local farmer.  Sweet, delicate, and lovely.

Custom blends are made in small batches and will sometimes only be available seasonally, depending upon the ingredients.  Right now I’ve got some strawberries and mint calling for blending to create a taste of summer for a mid-winter pick-me-up.

As of Feb 2010, finally got Pumpkin Ginger Spice tea made from the pumpkins that I got from “Our Garden” farm in New Florence, MO.  Have had lots of compliments on it, and a few customers have made it their favorite.  It will only be around for as long as I have pumpkin to make it; then you will have to wait till next Fall to get more.
