After water, tea is the most popular nonalcoholic beverage in the world. Green, black, oolong, white and herbal. There are so many options out there, how does a person know where to start?

We will discuss various teas and their origins, varying steeping methods, and do lots of sampling!

In short, I’ve updated the calendar/events page – changing “every other Tuesday” shop hours to 1st and 3rd Tuesday, to make it simpler to keep track of. TUESDAY HOURS 12:30-6:30 starts 11/22/11

Note: Friday after Thanksgiving “Black Friday” is BLACK (TEA) FRIDAY for us. From 2-6pm, only at our shop, all in-stock black tea is 40% off!

Then, Sunday 11/27/11, we are having an Open House with LOTS of teas to sample – you can make a side by side comparison of green teas from many regions (at least 5). You can also help us make decisions about various oolongs that we are considering for 2012. AND – 20% off all tea accessories….even those “For Life” pots and mugs you’ve been eyeing.

Lots of opportunities for Sharing Good Tea in your Good Times with family and friends in the upcoming weeks.

I’m excited to announce that we are extending the hours every other Tuesday, starting Thanksgiving week – Just in time for last minute Holiday gift and meal needs.
We also have a few extra shop days, including an Open House Sunday after Thanksgiving, Noon-4pm.

Chandler Hill Winery is extending their season by 2 weeks (through 10/30) – I will be there this Sunday 10/16.

I’m starting to hear “Where do we get our tea after the Markets end?”

Besides web/email orders and our selected shop hours, several shops around town carry a selection of our teas (see links at the right)

Also, the Markets never really “end”….they just change locations and frequency….

Maplewood Winter Market will be Sat 11/19 and 12/17, inside the Schlafly Brewery (still outside if weather is nice).

There is also the St. Louis Community Farmers Winter Market (some of the Tower Grove vendors plus a few), held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Arsenal, just west of Grand on the 2nd Saturday of the month – 11/12 and 12/10.  Watch my calendar page as it gets closer for start/end times.

Additionally, our shop is open every Friday evening from 5-7pm.  Also some Tuesdays from 11am-3pm.  I’m sorting out details to add some extra hours in Nov & Dec for holiday shopping.  Possibly an Open House on sun 11/27.

We’ve added a tiny amount of new shop hours (sorry it isn’t more yet).

If you have a non-planned event or gift situation and need to get tea, you can try the locations around town that are carrying our teas (see sidebar); or you can email or call Kateri. She can sometimes accommodate your schedule and meet you by appointment.

Please note, that once Saturday markets start in May we will NOT have Shop Hours on SATURDAY. We WILL still have Friday night shop hours (since we will be there getting ready for market).
This could change as summer progresses, so always be sure to check here or give us a call if the shop is more convenient than the market for you.

Also, this Sunday – I’ll be doing sampling at Sappington Farmers Market again – from Noon to 4 (or till I run out of tea). They are having special sales that day.

Remember Tea Circle at the shop on Tues 3/22 at 7:00pm FREE opportunity to sample and learn more about teas and how to steep them. What we sample that evening depends upon the interests of who shows up!

Tower Grove Farmers Market 2010

Thank you to each and every one of you who keep supporting Traveling Tea.  I enjoy seeing you, getting to know you, and helping you to share good tea with others.   That sounds like a sound-bite, but my words cannot adequately convey the joy and upliftment I feel when I know my customers by name.  It energizes me to feel that I am contributing something worthwhile in your lives. 

It was a great summer and I look forward to seeing you at winter markets at St. John’s Church and at Schlafly’s in Maplewood.  Thank you, again.

New Teas:

It seems like I get new teas in every time I turn around, and when you ask “What’s new?” I can never quite remember all of them!   That is part of why I am offering a “Tea Circle” 2x month at the shop – so you can hear about and try new things as they come in; help make decisions about new teas to carry; and take an hour to just get to know tea and other tea lovers.  Join me every month, for the foreseeable future, at 7 pm on the 2nd Wed or 4th Tuesday of every month.

While I’m thinking about it,  two new teas that come to mind are:

Vanilla Oolong – a tasty blend of Chinese Pai Mu Tan white tea with oolong and natural vanilla essence. 

Blood Orange – another herbal rooibos blend – this time with orange peel, hibiscus, rose hips and apple bits.  I hear it’s tasty with alcohol too….for those holiday punch blends….

ALSO – I finally got the Tisano cacao in.  YAY!!  Right now you can purchase a 4 oz tin for $14.00, and I will soon have it packaged in 1 & 2 oz, like the rest of our teas.  ALSO, I will be adding the cacao pieces to Chocolate Creme Tea, Chocolate Creme Rooibos, and Creamy Chocolate Mint – filling each of them with More chocolatey goodness!

Maude’s Market & Kakao Chocolate are now carrying a selection of our teas for your convenience.  Local Harvest Grocery continues to carry a selection of 1 & 2 oz. pkgs.  

For a cup or pot of tea around town – Local Harvest Cafe on Morganford & Stone Spiral Cafe on Sutton in Maplewood have each added several new flavors to their tea menus.

There were a couple of errors and a follow-up notice was sent out to correct the time for the tea & chocolate tasting, as well as info about the event at Stone Spiral on 11/18.   Info on this site has been corrected as well.

If you have not been receiving my newsletters please let me know.  I think some schools and businesses are blocking them.  We may have to find a new way to keep you up to date.
